When the Beating of Your Heart Echoes the Beating of the Drums

Not too long ago, someone updated their status on Facebook to say that you’re a fool if you don’t believe in the power of music.  And there came the topic of my next blog!  My dad used to tell me when I was growing up that the music we listened to affected us.  I think that as a whole, people underestimate the power that music has on them.  Whether it be the lyrics, the meaning, or the song in general it has a huge impact on each and every one of us whether you realize it or not.

I’ve posted a link below.  My recommendation is to listen to the entire song.  Don’t close it out just because you see the title.  Listen to the lyrics closely.  Listen to the trumpet fanfare.  If that doesn’t pump you up and make you want to start a revolution, there is something wrong with you.  This piece should inspire you!  It should make your spirit come alive!

Music can affect us in so many ways.  Whether it is to sooth an aching heart, boost our confidence, or calm our agitation; we are motivated and discouraged by our daily choice in the notes and lyrics that flow through our ears.  Some listen to country when they’re sad.  I like hard rock when I’m getting motivated to go out and sell advertising.  I like to feel big and bad before I pitch an idea to businesses.  Athletes commonly listen to rap or hip hop to get energized before a game.

Most likely, you change the radio station, or pick your playlist based upon your mood; and most likely you do not even realize it.  Now the challenge.  Pay attention to the lyrics, to the melody, to the harmony, to the entire music selection you listen to for a day.  You might just surprise yourself.  You might just find, that the reason you’re down all of the time is because of the depressing music playing around you.  Don’t forget to listen to the YouTube link below! Maybe that’s what the founding father’s where listening to when they started the Revolution!
